Located off the North East Coast of Belize, Cay Caulker is home to a remarkable species of Dwarf Boas that are highly sought after by reptile enthusiasts. Known as Hog Island Boas or Cayos de Los Cochinos, these boas are a rare and unique subspecies of Boa imperator that has captured the hearts of many snake lovers.

The Hog Island Boas are renowned for their striking appearance, with a gray background color adorned with black speckling and distinctive head markings. Their tails feature small saddles, adding to their overall charm. In captivity, these boas are known to thrive on a diet of mice and rodents, while in their native habitat, they feed on birds as their primary source of nutrition.

One of the most fascinating aspects of Hog Island Boas is their ability to breed at around 4 feet in length, with females capable of producing a dozen or so meals per year. Their maximum size is approximately 5 feet, making them true dwarves among boa constrictors.

The rarity and uniqueness of Hog Island Boas are due in part to the limited number of individuals collected from their native island. In fact, only a small number of boas were collected by the late Bob Sears in the Eighties and again by Dr. Boback in 2002 for his PhD dissertation. This scarcity has contributed to their value and desirability among reptile enthusiasts.
